Burrows, P8

Back in Peg 8 again. The formal peg numbering as opposed to the vernacular labelling at least confers some level of respectability.

The big change on the lake since I was here last is that there are peg numbers in the swims. So this is now no longer The Goose Shit - but the more respectable Peg 8.

We now have official peg numbers whoopee-do!

Both baits out on the ten wrap marks in front of the reeds opposite. I've already seen fish moving and I'm really confident, hoping for a 'hit'. The usual Manilla and Squid and Octopus (red and beige) colours. Smell doesn't seem to matter - appearance does.

Mosquitoes an absolute nightmare!

8.15
All set up, baits out and tickety-boo. Time for a brew methinks.

9.30
Things kicked off nicely with a 12:10 zip linear. Not a big fish but pretty. Pleased to have caught it.
Three Spombs to top up.

12:10 Zip Liner. Not a big fish but pretty nonetheless.
11.00
A bit of a right to left breeze has sprung up making accurate casting a bit more difficult.

11.30
Got a bit of an experiment going. Fishing a pop up straight off the lead on the LH rod. Bottom bait still on the right.

14.30
Nothing so far. I've had one bite - from a Horsefly. I was reading about them only the other day. Little buggers have like a saw for a mouth and inject you with anaesthetic. Didn't know the little bastard was chomping it's way through my left arm until I felt a slight pricking. Green and brown bugger it was.

Bloody Horseflies!... And itch!
15.00
The bailiff's just been round and told me I have to be off the lake by midnight - there's a match on here tomorrow. Bugger. Oh well, at least I can fish into the evening and go before dark. There's the chance of another fish before nightfall.

Oh no there's not! Some dickhead has moved in to the peg opposite and is fishing about five yards away from where my baits are! Grrrrrr!

There's an unwritten rule on here you don't fish opposite anyone. The lake is narrow and it is common practice to cast across and fish the far margin - you can get to spots impossible from the far bank anyway. This dude either didn't know or didn't care. Decided to give him the benefit of the doubt - he must be a new member and isn't aware of the protocol.

Packed up and went home.
